Description

This artifact is a pottery lamp from the holyland Herodian period (70 BC to the 3rd century AD). These lamps were popular in the Roman world and were used as a light source. Herodian lamps typically bore the symbol of the menorah and were simply decorated, perhaps reflecting Jewish dissatisfaction with the ornate Roman lamps of the time.
