The first purely Arab-Islamic gold dinar minted under Islam, issued during the Caliphate of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan in the year 79 AH. Obverse: Center: "There is no god but Allah alone; He has no partner." Margin: "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion." Reverse: Center: "Allah is One; Allah is the Eternal Refuge; He neither begets nor is born; nor is there to Him any equivalent." Margin: "In the name of Allah, this dinar was minted in the year seventy-nine."
